Resume Considerations for Service Firms Print E-mail

When applying for a job in a service company you might be surprised what types of things will propel your application to the top of the pile. Believe it or not if you worked at McDonalds or Starbucks as a teen this is something that is of value to service businesses. It is amazing that these sorts of things are looked at, but they are.

If you worked as a Valet for hotel, restaurant or exclusive parties, be sure to list this too. If you have ever worked as a Caddy this is golden and should be listed even if it was one summer in your youth. You see in a service business it is all about customer service and there are certain companies such as Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hotel Chains and banks, which pride themselves on service. All this shows you understand what service is all about.

Even if you have no exact relevant experience in that exact field they can always train you in the particulars, but it is often hard to train someone in customer service who has never given great service or dealt with customers in the past. If you are applying for a job in a service firm do not sell your resume short, list these early customer service jobs, as it shows a lifetime of service and understanding. Think on this in 2006.
